Extreme haze fills the air, making it difficult to see. Time moves slowly, and speech is hard to decipher. Lennith and Jahannam sit side by side, examining the painting.
“It’s the real thing?” she asks.
“What does this mean?”
“I don’t know. I think our isolation may finally end. For good or for bad, I cannot say.”
They both glance behind them, at the portal that led to Elegabalor’s former treasure room.
“Do you regret lying to them?”
He sighs. “No. How could I be completely honest, when I don’t know which side they are on, or if they even know annything? I want to believe in them, but they let it out. Stupidity, misfortune, or malevolence? Mortals are so trying.”
She leans her head on his shoulder. “The rings will lead them, and we will know. It is out of our hands, now.”
