The Unforgiving Minute
A Conversation With A Dragon
The woman walks slowly around the chamber, listening intently. The soft, green glow of the runes etched into the floor provide an odd contrast to her bronze skin. Her dark hair, elaborately wrapped around and through a thin, golden tiara, cascades down to her bare shoulders, almost hiding two glittering pearls dangling from her ears. A thick necklace of sapphires and rubies rests across her collar bones, the large stone in the middle just touching the edge of the red and purple silks clinging to her body, so thin as to be just barely opaque.
A harsh statement causes her to laugh, showing very white, perfectly straight teeth.
“I understand your requirements, and we are more than happy to oblige you, if you can meet your end of the bargain,” she states simply, her voice soft and high.
“If?” the being in the center of the arcane circle asks, a dangerous tone to his voice. “Creature, you and your kind are beneath me and mine. Doubt my capabilities and my word at your own peril.”
She calmly eyes the figure wearing the appearance of a man. “It is not your capabilities that I doubt. And you should know, I don’t scare easily.”
“WELL MAYBE YOU SHOULD!” he roars.
Though his size does not change, his terrible presence fills the room. Even through the vision, you are filled with terror, awe, and an urge to worship this majestic being, whatever it is.
A low growl rumbles from the corner, and an enormous hell hound the size of a draft horse steps out from the shadows, its red, hellish eyes echoing the unearthly fire of its breath. She calmly extends her left arm to stop its progress, gently patting its chest. It halts, but the malevolent glare in its eyes remains.
“We will meet our end of the bargain. Hassuna will be distracted with internal turmoil and their search overseas; the Dragon Watch will have similar problems. They will be ripe for destruction, and you will rule everything between the Alia Kara’Vesh and Darrova. Whatever you wish, so long as you keep them occupied for the duration of our plans. And you will have what you want”
He eyes her with distrust. “And you can do as you claim?”
“You know I can. Burn Hassuna, and we will free your kin from their torment.”
His face darkens for a moment. “We will discuss and respond in due time.” He disappears from the circle.
She chews her lip for a moment, her white teeth gleaming brightly despite the green light of the runes fading. She extends her right arm up to the hell hound’s mouth, handing it a severed hand, which it gladly devours. She pats its chest once more.
